Somalilandsun: Members of the public have pledge support for a national conference to debate equitably representation in parliament for all regions.
This pledge was made during a meeting of People’s Declaration Youths organized by its members from Awdal region in Hargeisa where the issue of proportional representation in Awdal region and the eastern regions of Somaliland prior to the next general elections.
While members of the public pledged their full support for the regional shareholding debate, the participants also agreed on the imperatives of youths in the country standing shoulder to shoulder until the prevalent representation anomaly in elective offices was rectified.
In conclusion of the day long meeting the People’s Declaration were unanimous on continuation of similar activities in all major cities and regions of Somaliland.
It was only recently that the House of Representatives approved the Electoral Act based on the 2005 proportional representation which is a bone of contention since eastern and western regions are under represented in parliament.
Among the members of the public who attended the conference were lawyer Guled Dafac and poet Abdirahman Abees as well Scholars and teachers from Awdal and other regions.
