HARGEISA (Somaliland sun) – Contrary to thoughts by many I am not happy about the ongoing conflict within the ruling party Kulmiye.
This was stated by the chairman of opposition party of Wadani and Speaker of Somaliland parliament Abdirahman Abdilahi Mohamed ‘Irro’ at the Egal International airport in Hargeisa upon return from an extended working visit abroad.
After expressing his sorrow and wishes of hasten Kulmiye party conflict Irro said that it was not healthy for the nation when 10 ministers decide to resign their portfolios at a go.
The speaker of parliament was refereeing to the recent resignation of a large number of President Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo’s cabinet among them heavyweights like Hirsi Haji Ali the former powerful presidency minister.
The withdrawal from government by the Hirsi led team revolved around the ongoing Kulmiye party forthcoming nomination of Somaliland presidential candidate that pits current Muse Behi against an alliance of Mohamed Behi (ex-foreign minister), Abdiaziz Samale (ex-finance minister) and MP Ahmed Abdi Nuur Kijande.
The resignations were it is alleged as a result of orders from the presidency that all cabinet ministers who are all members of the party’s central committee vote for Muse Behi allegedly favoured by the president.
“Kulmiye is a national party and currently the ruling one and thus any wrangles within it are likely to impinge on proper function of government” said Irro adding that his party Wadani is interested in expedited resolution of the conflict.
Stressing that the nation comes first regardless of which party was in power Irro who also aspires for the Somaliland presidency in forthcoming elections slated for March 2017 said that, the ruling party’s conflict that has created worries even within opposition politicians and party’s was the responsibility of the head of state to interfere and solve without favouring any faction.
While commenting citizens for continued observance of harmonious living thence prevalent peace in the country Irro urged them, citizens, to maintain the same and in the same.
Despite reiterating his personal and Wadani party’s sadness over factional conflict within Kulmiye Speaker Abdirahman Abdilahi Mohamed Irro said that those defecting from the ruling party were welcome to Wadani which shall hold its central committee meeting anytime before end of this year.
In an unprecedented move the Wadani party chair was met at the airport by a large contingent of legislators from all parties in the Somaliland parliament that he leads as speaker.
