Somaliland: HIBF 2014 Opens

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Hargiesa International Book Fair-HIBF 2014 has officially opened.
The opening ceremony of the annual fair held in Hargeisa the capital of Somaliland saw an attendance of over 1,000 including a large number of foreigners.
Leading the foreign legion is a group of eight Malawian writers who are making their debut in the fair where they shall join local and foreign colleagues in not only sampling the wide variety of books but present theirs as well.

Prominent Horn region artists include Nuradin Farah, Somaliland’s own poet Hadraawi and famous Somaliland born British writer Nadifa Mohamed.

Themed “Imagination” the 7th Edition of HIBF which is the largest so far and the main cultural event in Somaliland and one of the largest public celebrations of books in East Africa has managed to pool together a staff of 50 volunteers from Somaliland and abroad.
The Week long fair held at the Civil Service Commissio0n hall in Hargeisa and ends on 13th August shall also see interested local photojournalist and creative writers accrue skills from the array of internationally reckoned with artists from various countries currently in attendance.
