HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – A major shift in government recruitment policies shall see the ministry of health improve its capabilities by acquiring highly skilled professionals.

This development is anticipated following the announcement by the national health authorities that the ministry shall provide employment opportunities to trainees from private institutions that undertake diploma and certificate level studies in various health skills.

Although no figures of anticipated absorption were given the announcement is welcomed as a positive measure towards strengthening the capacity of health workers who are currently remnants of the Siad Barre era or directly employed after graduating from Hargeisa and Amoud universities-Doctors or from the Nursing School in Hargeisa.

With the health ministry turning to private medical schools for recruits it is hoped that it, the ministry, shall start supervising and registering institutions in order to ensure quality of education and subsequent quality of services.
