Somaliland: Government Condemns Terrorist Attack in Kenya, Condoles Nation

HAREISA (Somalilandsun) – The government and people of the republic of Somaliland has extended condolences to the government and people of Kenya following deaths and injuries that occurred during the ongoing siege of the Westgate mall in Nairobi by Somali Islamist group Al-Shabaab’

In a statement that also condemned the Terrorist attack as a cowardly act the Somaliland minister of foreign affairs Mohamed Behi Yonis Said:

“We vehemently condemn the ongoing siege of a mall in the Kenya Capital Nairobi by Terrorists who have so far killed and injured many innocent civilians and as we pray for a hasty and less traumatizing end to the siege we also extended our condolences to Kenyans”

The Westgate mall in Nairobi is on its third day of siege by terrorists of he Al-Qaida aligned Al-Shabaab movement that has been fighting against the Federal Government of Somalia and troops from AMISOM of which Kenya is a contributing country.

Yesterday, in a public message of support and solidarity with the people and government of Kenya, Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of Somaliland Mohamed Behi Yonis issued the following statement via BBC Somali Radio:

“The Somaliland government condemns in the strongest terms the hideous and intolerable acts that occurred in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, and we fully deplore the horrific death and violence brought upon these innocent people, including women and children.”

“We send our deepest prayers and sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives and others in Kenya affected by the tragedy, and wish them endurance and faith during these trying times.”

Somaliland, as a long-time partner and ally of Kenya’s, has also relayed its continued commitment to supporting the efforts of Kenya and other members of the international community to bring peace and combat terrorism throughout the region.
