As SOLJA castigates the Hargeisa regional Court prosecutor for unlawful arrest order

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The proprietor of Hatuuf media group Yusuf Abdi Gabobe is in custody after police effected an arrest warrant issued by the Hargeisa regional court.
According to the warrant, police were ordered to arrest and detain Gabobe for failure to attend court for hearing of a case against him and the Hatuuf editor in chief submitted by the government on issues related to malicious and false items published by the now proscribed Hatuuf newspaper.
Though he is now in jail for failure to attend a court hearing Yusuf Abdi Gabobe is revisiting the penitentiary again following almost ten days confinement for contempt of court.
Meanwhile the Somaliland Journalists Association-SOLJA has decried the arrest of Gabobe terming it as unlawful thence a breach of the journalist’s freedom and constitutional rights.
In a press statement released by secretary general Mohamed-Rashid Muhumed Farah, SOLJA accused the Hargeisa regional prosecutor Asad Nuur Elmi of utilizing official channels to victimize Yusuf Gabobe for personal vengeance.
“To this effect SOLJA vehemently castigates the ongoing muzzling of freedom of speech in gthe country and victimization of Yusuf Abdi Gabobe” read the statement.
During his second arrest outside the Hargeisa regional court at around 11:40 am Yusuf Gabobe was in company of the SOLJA SG and other officials.
