HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – A full Hargeisa Municipal council meeting has categorically rejected a directive to stop all land allocations by the central government.
The aim of the meeting was to oppose the ministerial degree of the minister of roads and housing Hon. Abdirisack khalif Ahmed which was to the effect that the municipal council had no authority to sell public land & assets or dish out land documents to people.
The meeting which was chaired by the deputy Mayor of Hargeisa Municipality Mr. Abdiaziz Mohamed resolved that the councilors would oppose the minister’s directive and vowed that the council has the authority to engage in purchasing as well as selling public assets as it draws its mandate from various statutes giving the local authority such powers & functions.
The councilors in their full council meeting reasoned that the minister for roads & housing erred in digesting the presidential directives by misunderstanding the gist of the applicable procedural aspect for the said presidential degree.
The councilors though in support of the presidential decree on forfeiture of public immovable properties vowed that they are the ones to implement the directives as envisioned in its bylaws.
