HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The country is mourning the death of the late Hussein Mahmud Awale ‘Gamode’ere’ who died in Hargeisa on the 22nd March.
The late Gamode’ere died from a hail of bullets fired by a police officer at a checkpoint at Qoton centre while in the convoy of the Somaliland health minister Dr Suleiman Isse Ahmed ‘Haqlatosie’ on an official working tour of Dadmadeed (Odweine) region.
While Initial reports indicate that the police officer fired at the late Gamode’ere for purportedly failing to stop at the checkpoint as is the norm, it is yet to be ascertained whether there was a security alert necessitating such a violent reaction.
The irony is that late Hussein Mahmud Awale ‘Gamode’ere’ who was a large livestock export trader operating out of Hargeisa was the one shot for checkpoint jumping rather than the driver of the car who was the real culprit.
May Allah rest his soul in eternal bliss
