Somaliland: Five High Court Judges Fired, Eight Appointed

This is the first major workforce realignment at the Judiciary Since President Silanyo swore in Aden Haji Ali to the office of Somaliland Justice Chief

Somalilandsun – The highest Judicial body has new members in the bench following presidential decree # JSL/M/XERM/249-3438/072015

In this the president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo decree that informed of the appointment of eight high court judges also simultaneously revealed the firing of three others.

Justifying the appointments and firing of High court judges the head of state said he was guided by articles 90,101 and 105 of the Somaliland constitution as well as the advise availed by the National Judiciary Committee thence the following assumed duties as high court judges henceforth

1. Justice Ahmed Diriye Qaalib

2. Justice Ali-shuaib Sh. Ibrahim Nuur,

3. Justice, Mohamed Farah Saeed,

4 Justice Abdirahman Hasan Nuur,

5. Justice Abdilahi Abdi Aden,

6. Justice Abdirahman Jama Hayan,

7. Justice Abdirahman Hussein Ainaan and

8. Justice Yahye Ali Idiris,

Worthy to mention is that the appointees who join others including the Chief Justice to make the full eleven member Bench are representative all clans in Somaliland

In the same decree three former High court judges were fired without any reasons given namely

Yasin Hasan Ismail, Ahmed Hasan Dirir and Abdirahman Madar Arale who ironically sat in the five member constitutional court bench that ruled in against a government order barring opposition parties meetings thus stating that that meetings by opposition political parties was a constitutional right.

It is also the first senior work realignment at the judiciary since Prof Aden Haji Ali assumed the Somaliland Chief Justice docket a couple of months ago.
