ERIGAVO (Somalilandsun) – Movement anywhere to the east of Erigavo town used to be a cumbersome exercise especially as pertained to time consumption and almost bones breakage.

This anomaly is currently becoming extinct courtesy of a self-help project in which local drivers are voluntarily engaged in rehabilitating the Road that connects the Sanaag regional Capital Erigavo to Badan and in extension to Las Anod in Sool Region and the Puntland port town of Bosaso that is conduit to a large segment of imports to the Eastern region of Somaliland.

The volunteer road Rehabilitation drivers in Sanaag region of Somaliland appeal for support While a government project deemed the biggest in the country’s history targets upgrading to asphalt status the over 500 kms road linking Erigavo to Burao in Toghdeer region thence easing movement via an all year all seasons asphalt road and the Erigavo local government having Tarmarcked roads in the town the one moving eastwards remains devoid of seasonal thence the intervention by local drivers.

With commuters queried by starTV acknowledging the improvements accrued by the self-help efforts, especially the ease of movement and reduction in travel duration, the volunteering drivers who have supplied labour but relevant materials as well, appeal to the government, Donor organizations and affluent citizens as well as private companies for support with financial and material donations.

It is worth mentioning that despite the fact that the construction of the Erigavo Burao road is the biggest and boldest by any Somaliland government funds for works have and are still be accrued from Citizen donations and more so civil servants who have been making monthly contributions for over a year.
