Somaliland: Elder Abdi Warabe en-route to Djibouti for Medical Attention

HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – A senior member of the Guurti is in Djibouti seeking specialized medical attention.

Following four days of hospitalization at the Hargeisa Manhal Hospital, Elder Haji Abdi Hussein Yusuf also known as, Haji Warabe has been taken to Berbera thus fly out to Djibouti for medical checks and subsequent treatment.

According to family sources, Haji Abdi Warabe who is 115 years old and an active member of the upper house of parliament fell sick a few days ago and was hospitalized at Manhal hospital where Doctors advised specialized check-ups and treatment abroad thus the Djibouti via Berbera move.

Haji Abdi Warabe who has played an important role in the country’s reconciliation and establishment of a state became a chief when Somaliland was a British protectorate. He worked closely with the British colonial officials, and was selected by them as the chief of chiefs.

“I worked very well with them for 20 years until independence in 1960” Haji Warabe recently told Mary Harper of BBC.

Haji Warabe who was born in the area where the Egal international airport now is was a nomad until he became a chief in 1940. The man Nicknamed Warabe which means hyena remains the undisputed the chief of chiefs, the elder of elders and the most senior traditional leader in the whole of Somaliland.

Somalilandsun joins the rest of the nation in wishing Haji Abdi Warabe a speedy recovery thence his return to normal duties of ensuring that peaceful coexistence is maintained.
