Somalilandsun- A story about an Egyptian Cobra discovery in Somaliland we picked up from www.alleastafrica.com had a few errors that the person behind the observation has been good enough to clarify below as
Somalilandsun-Dear Yusuf, My name is Ahmed Kadleye. I am a Somaliland activist and photographer. A couple days ago we briefly talked on the phone about the Egyptian cobra item that you had published.
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner – I was really snowed under!
The “farmer”, who saw, photographed and videotaped this particular snake, is me, not Ali Ahmed Omer as the Alleastafrica article claims. The video clip and photos were taken on 08/07/2017. The photos were published in social media on 13/07/2017 06:30 am; a few hours later the video clip was posted, see my Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/ahmed.kadleye?hc_ref=ARRWPTtlyg7emlscjoq1lzqm90vTz9TDwvI6xinSH3lusNeCFe6tHjW9fQwOaFKc90w
Other factual errors in the article:
a) My Facebook does not say I’ve discovered a new species in Somaliland. It states “to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time this particular species has been videotaped in Somaliland”.
b) The length of the snake photographed was not 1.2m. It was 1.7m.
c) The incident took place in Sheikh-Wafi, which is about 23 Km south west of Hargeisa, not 60 Km west of Hargeisa as the article claims. Sheik-Wafi is a small farming hamlet in Faraweyne District.
Factual errors aside, the (Alleastafrica) article is an intellectual property theft – they have not contacted me nor have they acknowledged that the photos used are mine!
I can pop in tomorrow if it is a convenient time for you; otherwise, my phone number is 0633291866.
Kind Regards,
Ahmed Kadleye
