HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The ministry of education is to fund a new basketball team that will represent it on the national stage. The team will play using the name “IFTIN”; this was revealed during a ceremony held at the civil service institute hall which was attended by the minister of education Mrs. Zamzam Abdi Adam, the director general of the ministry of sports and youth affairs and sports personalities.
The national coordinator for basketball and youth Mr. Mohamed Hassan Abdilahi (Qodax) said that he was the one who selected this team and praised the minister of education for her input, where by without consulting or asking for help from any quarter Mrs. Zamzam funded the brainchild behind the team formation.
Hon. Mohamud Jama Warfa a member of parliament and a former basketball player thanked the education minister for giving the team at the venue their playing kits e.g uniforms, shoes and balls.
Also speaking at ceremony was the secretary general of the national Olympics committee Mr. Mubarak Farah Hidigle told the player to work hard so that they could be able to attain status to play for the division one. Finally the minister promised the youths that she will establish a big youth’s club for the youth club for the youths. She added that her ministry pays for scholarships of 400 students from poor families to attend national universities.
