Somalilandsun: “For those still crying for the reunion of Somaliland with Somalia, three decades translate to those tears being crocodile ones”
This was stated by Ms. Edna Adan Ismail, a strong critic of Somalia, as she reacted to the failed protests in Washington DC against the visit of Somaliland President Muse Bihi to the United States.
President Bihi who is leading a high powered delegation has so far held several engagements with Biden Administration officials and deliver a highly acknowledged speech at the Heritage institute as well as met and held discussions with prominent Somaliland recognition campaigners and American Somalilanders as well.
Dr Edna Adan who is a former Somaliland foreign affairs minister and currently member of the country’s International recognition task force told Geeska AfrikaGeeska Afrika newspaper that the sovereignty of Somaliland was a foregone conclusion thus “ an exercise in futility to advocate or lobby otherwise”
“ Noting that neither protests nor badmouthing her country and the like could be used to undermine the 30 years of peace, security and development attained by Somaliland, she went on to state that President Muse Bihi Abdi’s visit to the United States had nothing to do with Somalia.
Wondering about those protesters who were claiming that Somaliland was a lie, Dr Edna was quick to query this saying that
“I would like to point out that the people who were protesting in Washington said that Somaliland is lying. We are not lying, are we lying about the Somalia airforce plane that bomb Hargeisa to ashes and killed thousands”?
Stressing that the entire world was privy to prevalent status in the two formerly united countries the first female foreign minister of her country said
, are we lying that Somaliland is safe compared to her terror infested neighbour , are we lying that we have held a series of democratic elections followed by peaceful transfer of power?
“ Are we lying that Somalia has not been able to do half of anything Somaliland has done with outside support as opposed to being under the protection of foreign forces?
Without mentioning names the founder of Edna Adan Teaching and referral hospital in Hargeisa said that the organisers of the anti-Somaliland protests in the US were perpetrators of the mayhem meted of innocent Somalilamders thus wondering on their claim to their current refugee status in the Americas.
Reiterating the fact that the Independence of Somaliland was neither for discussion not irrevocable Ms. Ismail said the resolve of over 4million citizens wasn’t for trifle
In conclusion she defended the presence of her head of state in the US while applauding his globally acknowledged speech at the Heritage Institute where he categorically stated that the the international community was under moral obligation to recognise the sovereignty of Somaliland.
