Somaliland sun- The over $400 deal between the governments of Somaliland and United Arab Emirates for development of Berbera port is about to take off.
This was revealed by the chairman of DP World the body designated by the UAE to fulfill the contractual arrangements more so the operational management of the main Somaliland port after a visit to the p in Berbera.
DP World executives led by chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Suleyman made an impromptu insiontour of the port in Berbera before flying to the capital Hargeisa for a meeting with president Silanyo and senior government officials.
“We welcome you with you a sincere mind and heart to your second homeland – Somaliland. We assure you we will most sincerely and most professionally fulfill our obligations towards the agreement we, together, reached,” the President said after the meeting at the presidency.
The head of the delegation, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, expressed his ‘pleasure and honor’ to 
be in the country and that he was already impressed by the vastness of the country and what he had witnessed since his delegation’s arrival.
DP World,” he said “made a historical agreement on behalf the United Arab Emirates when we signed an MOU between the government of the United Arab Emirates and the government of Somaliland during the President’s visit where both governments agreed to cooperate and use this operation to develop this port of Berbera into a port with a Free zone and a logistic park as a first step of many projects”.
Mr. Sultan pointed out that the location of Berbera port and its connectivity to Ethiopia were ideal and contributed to an increasing confidence they acquired of the deal they entered into during their firsthand visit to Somaliland.
The Berbera management and development deal in which the UAE shall chip-in over $400m in a span of 30 years shall see DP world refurbish exist structures and erect new ones as need be as well as construct a five star hotel in the coastal town and participate in upgrade of the Berbera capital raider that connects Somaliland to Ethiopia.
