We, the government and people of Somaliland congratulate President-elect H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta following confirmation of his victory in the recent presidential elections of the Republic of Kenya.
The elections, which have been described as free and fair by international observers and
Kenya’s Supreme Court, represent another milestone in democratic achievement for both the Kenyan people and the broader region. The campaigning, voting, and review processes were all conducted in a spirit of peaceful coexistence and respect for the rule of law, which is a further proof that Africa’s current renaissance is founded not only on impressive economic potential, but also on firm democratic roots.
My country, Somaliland, is confident that this new path forward will provide our two countries with an opportunity to continue to build upon and strengthen what has already become a historic relationship based on brotherhood and deep cooperation. We offer our wholehearted support to President Kenyatta as he takes the helm in leading the nation on its journey to further ensure the prosperity of its people, as well as further secure the stability and peace of the East and Horn of Africa.
