HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Khalifa Foundation is sponsoring the construction of two massive dams in the country.
The water sector development project was revealed during a meeting between the Somaliland resident diplomat in the UAE Ambassador Bashe Awil Omar and head of the Khalifa foundation H.E Mohamed Alkhoori in Abu Dhabi.
According to H.E Alkoori the Emirati government’s charity arm “Being aware of the difficulties Somaliland citizens encounter as pertains water scarcity construction of two huge dams shall be supported”
Though this is the third water project funded by the Khalifa foundation in Somaliland it was a milestone for the diplomatic career of Amb Bashe who assumed his duties in the UAE a week ago.
At the meeting that took place at the offices of the Somaliland diplomatic mission, Amb Bashe Awil extended gratitude’s of the Somaliland people and government for continued development support from the people and government of the United Arab Emirates.
“The government of Somaliland is committed to not only the sustainability of existing relations with the UAE but its strengthening as well” said Amb Bashe while stressing upon the immeasurably and positive impact accrued citizen livelihoods from the regular and over the years interventions by the UAE.
To concluded the meeting Amb Bashe Awil handed to H.E Mohamed Alkhoori on behalf of the Khalifa Foundation a certification of appreciation from the president of Somaliland Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo.
Apart from the various development and humanitarian assistance received from the UAE The cordiality of relations between the two countries is exemplified by the Emirati’s being the only provider of international flights linking Somaliland to the rest of the world through its carrier Flydubai.
