HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The National Army Commander Brigadier Abdilahi Haji Jama ‘Aalas’ has been released from house arrest.

According to unverified reports Brig Aalas is free following almost a fortnight under house arrest at his Hargeisa residence imposed by the army under the now disputed orders from the Vice president of Somaliland Abdirahman Abdilahi Sayli.

The release from house arrest imposed during the absence of the head of state President Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo seems to have been effected just a day before the return home of president Silanyo from his extended tour of France and the UK.

Though he confirmed his detention on orders from VP Sayli then acting for his boss who subsequently denied any knowledge or involvement in what military sources had indicated was as a result of a dispute with the Chief of Staff General Shakale, Brigadier Aalas denied knowledge of circumstances that led to his house confinement.
