Hargeisa (Somalilandsun) – The international partners that supports Somaliland’s democratic process has released a brief statement today regarding the extension of the term of office of the Senate for the president and vice president of Somaliland.
The United States government, which represents the international community, has issued a press release that underlines the importance of Somaliland’s political process to agree on the implementation of a law that will enable the elections to be held as soon as possible.
A brief statement from the United States embassy in Mogadishu reads, “Following the decision of the Somaliland House of elders on mandate extensions this weekend, international partners following the democratization process want to underline the importance of a consensus-driven process which allows elections to be held as soon as possible in a manner consistent with the technical considerations set out by Somaliland’s National electoral commission.”
“We once again urge all Somaliland’s political actors to work together constructively to agree on a timely roadmap for the elections for Somaliland’s democratic credibility and stability.
