Somaliland sun – In order to enhance the capacity of the disaster management committees on the effects of climate change and provide early warning information, the National Environmental Research and Disasters Preparedness (NERAD) conducted a 4-day workshop for district disaster management committees of Hargeisa. The workshop focuses on climate change mitigation and early warning systems and improving participant’s disaster reporting skills to be timely and more efficient.
Funded by Global Environment Facility (GEF) through UNDP’s Poverty Reduction and Environment Protection Programme (PREP), 20 participants (4 women and 16 men) attended the workshop.
Mr. Mohamed Muse Awale, the director of NERAD believes that the training is useful for the partner institutions and will strengthen the collaboration between government partners, disaster committees and NERAD.
This workshop will be conducted in six major districts in #Somaliland for the coming quarter. A similar workshop took place in Borama earlier this month whereby another 20 participants benefited from the training.
