Somalilandsun – Various actors in Somalia like the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia-UNSOM and the African Mission in Somalia –AMISOM are faced with daunting challenges as the war-torn country prepares for its first democratic elections and subsequent transfer of presidential and parliamentary power next year.
This according to Nicholas Kay, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia (UNSOM), and Ambassador Maman Sambo Sidikou, Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia, who discussed the future of UNSOM and AMISOM at an IPI hosted function On June 9th.
At the discussions the duo who also dwelt on a myriad of issues relating to remittances from the Diaspora and security with the wider Horn and East African region per se Al-shabaab militants among others also showed optimism for the now stalled international sanctioned talks between Somaliland and Somalia –
