HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Police in the Somaliland capital of Hargeisa have released five journalists arrested in the morning hours.
This was revealed by the chairperson of Somaliland Journalists Association -Solja Mahmud Abdi Jama ‘Huto’ during an interview with Somalilandsun in which he further informed that intervention by his body ensued with the release after a few hours in police custody.
Journalists Hamza Ali Bulbul and Mustafa Aden both from Star TV, Mukhtar M Hiin -HCtv, Abdirahman Bidaar -Togaherer news and Kadar Ma’alin –BulshoTV were arrested at the constitutional court in Hargeisa during a hearing of an opposition parties and politicians alliance petition against a government order barring their meetings.
“I hereby confirm that the five journalists have been released and their constipated equipment returned to them” said Huto who reiterated that the arrest of members of the fourth estate without a court warrant should cease.
The opposition parties alliance that won its case against the government after the constitutional court ruled that their rights to meetings cannot be violated had during post court decision meeting vehemently condemned the journalists arrest as well as that of senior Wadani party officials in Hargeisa, Berbera and Burao.
