Somalilandsun -Sheikh Abdilahi Diriye Soran, the Imam of Nakhil mosque, has passed away on Wednesday at the age of 75, leaving behind a rich legacy of outstanding efforts for the country’s religious affairs.
On Wednesday Afternoon Sheikh Abdilahi Diriye Soran was buried in a State funeral at Naso Hablod Cemetery, east of Hargeisa.
The funeral was attended by cabinet members, leaders of the three political parties, parliamentarians, elders, religious clerics, community leaders and members of the public.
Born in 1940s, Sheikh Soran was also one of the most famous Somali poets and artists in 1970s and 1980s.
In a statement released by presidential spokesman, President Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud (Silanyo) sent a message of condolence to the family, friends and to the Somaliland nation at large on death of the Sheikh Abdilahi Diriye Soran.
The statement said “Sheikh Abdilahi Diriye Soran was one of the country’s religious clerics who preached the promotion of virtue. He was a forthright scholar who would be sorely missed by all of us. May Allah (SWT) bless his soul our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time .
Similarly, the leaders of the three political parties, Kulmiye, Waddani and UCID have also sent heart-felt condolences to the family, friends and to the Somaliland nation at large on death of the late Sheikh Abdilahi Diriye Soran.
