HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Uncertainty surrounding the management of the state print media is resolved.
The minister of Information Hon Abib Diriye Nuur has cleared the recent uncertainty surrounding the state print media after he reinstated Mr. Mohamed Osman Mire ‘Sayid’ as the Dawan Media Group-DMG managing editor.
According to a ministerial directive released by the information minister Mr. Sayid is to resume his duties at the media house with immediate effect while Mr. Omar Mohamed Farah becomes the new chief editor.
The resolved over fortnight managerial limbo at the DMG came about after Mr. Sayid was fired through a ministerial decree by former information minister Abdi Yusuf Duale (Boobe) who was himself fired by President Silanyo a few days later.
The directive read:
Purpose: Appointment
In view of the importance of the Dawan Media Group to the ministry of information and the country in addition to the need for effective management and skilled performance at the state media house,
I the minister of information and national guidance do hereby, Appoint Mr. Mohamed Osman Mire as the managing editor of Dawan Media Group as from 10th/09/2012.
In addition, as from today, I have appointed Mr. Omar Mohamed Farah as the Chief Editor of the Dawan Media Group. End of Quote
A huge sigh of relief was audible within the compound of the DMG Once the minister’s directive was received due to the uncertainties that had engulfed all cadres of staff at the media house.
The two years tenure of Mr. Sayid at the Helm has seen many changes at the Dawan Media Group especially as pertains to staff remunerations, acquisition of modern working tools as well as general improvements in the circulation of the DMG’s Somali and English language newspapers.
