HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Roads Development Agency-RDA shall henceforth be the sole authority responsible for the management of the country’s roads network.
The supremacy to RDA follows a presidential directive # JSL/M/XERM/249-1772/062013 of 05/JUNE/2013 which was released to the press by the presidential press office this evening.
As per the d
irective the RDA has been mandated with the overall authority of the management, development and rehabilitation of the nationwide roads network, a mandate formerly under the Ministry of Public works, Transport and Housing.
President Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo who derived his authority for this action on article 90 of the constitution says he made the changes owing to the importance the road network has to the multi-sectored development of the country.
This change that takes effect immediately is most welcome since it shall consolidate nationwide roads management hitherto jointly shared by the ministry of Public works, Local governments and the Roads Development Authority.
The directive also comes at a time when the administration of president Silanyo is operating at top gear as per the rehabilitation and construction of roads connecting various regions, districts and cities as well as ones that inter-connect city estates.
