Somalilandsun – Compared to elections of 2012 where only 135 people were involved in elect members of the Somalia parliament, forthcoming polls shall see legislators chosen by an electoral college of 14,000 persons.
This is according to the president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud during an address to the U.N. Security Council in which he also revealed that this year’s electoral process will take the country, currently grappling with violent extremists, “one step closer to universal suffrage,” and planning is already under way for one-person, one-vote elections by 2020.
