HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Somaliland ministry of education-MOE is perusing recommendations from Curriculum experts and other stakeholders.
This development follows the conclusion of a two days National Consultation conference on the Curriculum Framework that was jointly sponsored by the African Educational Trust-AET and MOE with participants pooled from numerous Somaliland education stakeholders i.e. AET, MOE, Centre for British Teachers-CFBT and Education curriculum experts as well as religious and community leaders.
According to the MOE Director General Mohamed Hashi Ibrahim the ministry shall Endeavour to undertake the recommendations of the experts and produce a new school syllabus by 2015.
“With the ongoing globalization the government shall put in place a school’s curriculum that shall catapult Somaliland into the 21st Century” Said DG Hashi
The most important recommendation from the workshop is the introduction of a mid level technical curriculum which shall facilitate training of various skilled tertiary cadres who are currently expatriate based.
The current curriculum was put in place seventeen years ago having been completely drafted from Zero, five years after Somaliland reclaimed its independence after a brutal war with Somali.
