HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – Safety measures were the only agenda tackled by the House of Representatives at their sitting.
The legislators approved the meat inspection & Protection law as well as the road traffic law that were under debate for a couple of months.
The meat inspection & Protection law which is geared towards ensuring sanitation prevails within all meat outlets in the country, received the approval through 35 aye votes, 2 no votes and four abstentions.
The road traffic law that is set to bring order to the chaos prevailing within all road usage nationwide was approved after 35 members voted for it and one voted no while five refrained from the vote.
The two important laws will now be forwarded to Guurti, the upper house of parliament for final approval before they are submitted to the president H.E Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo for signature thus validation as national laws.
Though the laws were voted upon legally the lower house sitting presided over by the deputy speaker Hon Bashe Mohamed Farah had a quorum of 42 out of a membership of 82.
While thanking members for their continued diligence the deputy speaker informed members that the house would hold a special meeting next Saturday whose agenda will solely be the endorsement of recently appointed senior government officials.
