Somalilandsun: : As the time for the fourth congress of the KULMIYE party is approaching, posturing’s by politicians greedy for the ruling Somaliland party leadership are being felt in Hargeisa.
Although it is difficult to compete with President Bihi for the chairmanship of the KULMIYE party, there is still no change in the announcement of politician Mohamud Hashi Abdi to run for the chairmanship of the party, but indications are that aspirant will find it difficult to run for office within as all odds are stacked against him.
Sources indicate that the beleaguered Mohamud Hashi is expected to speak to the media at least before the deadline for accepting applications from aspiring politicians, when his position will be publicly made.
However, in addition to the chairmanship of the KULMIYE party, there will be a race for the party’s vice-chairmanship, and there are politicians in Hargeisa who are vying for these positions. This is reinforced by President Bihi’s visit to the KULMIYE party headquarters in Hargeisa this week.
However, it is predicted that the KULMIYE conference will bring about a change in Somaliland’s domestic politics, which is why the two opposition parties WADANI and UCID have postponed their conferences, citing potential political divisions within the ruling party.
