Somaliland: Junior Officer Guns Down Arabsiyo Police Commander

Police have banned all political rallies in the region until further notice

GABILE (Somalilandsun) – A regular working day for the Arabsiyo police commander ended fateful in Gabile town on the 3oth Sept after he was gunned by a junior officer he was taking to Court.
The late Captain Abdi Ismail Ali ‘Abdi Ase’ died from multiple wounds he sustained after he was shot several times in Gabile town by an officer he was taking to court for arraigned on charges related to misconduct to the public during security operations in Arabsiyo district of Gabile region.
The National police Commissioner Brigadier Abdilahi Fadal Iman who identified the culprit as Private Mawlid Mohamed Suudi attached to the Gabile regional police command and seconded to Arabsiyo police station said police are holding him and he shall be charged with the murder of Captain Abdi ASE.
At the same time the president Ahmed Mahmud Silanyo Issued an order for the expedited prosecution of private Mawlid for the act of murder he termed as despicable and not worthy of being meted on a serving officer by an officer in the same uniform.
Meanwhile the Abdirahman Irro has extended messages of condolences to the Somaliland police force and family of the late captain Mawlid which he extended on behalf of the parliament which he is speaker of and the opposition political party of Wadani he chairs.
Captain Mawlid becomes the third security officer to be killed in Somaliland by a colleague in as many weeks following the recent slaying of Captain Mohamed Aw-Rabah Yusuf and Lieutenant Jama Mahmud Hadi, the commanding and operations officers of Somaliland’s 17th army battalion respectively who were killed at their QoriLugud military post in Togdeer region by a soldier under their command.
While the murdering police officer in Gabile has been apprehended the slayer of both Captain Mohamed and Lieutenant Jama remains at large almost a month since committing the heinous crime .
