Somaliland midwives are among delegates representing 144 countries at the 31st ICM Triennial Congress 2017 hosted by the Canadians
Themed Midwives making a difference in the world the 31st ICM Triennial Congress represents and works to strengthen professional associations of midwives throughout the world. With 130 Midwives Associations, representing 114 countries across every continent,
With the other 130 midwives associations, the Somaliland team whose country has one of the highest infant mortality rate in the world owing to insufficient midwives and scantily equipment, is expected to accrue much knowledge through group and plenary discussions in the program of the ICM congress that runs from 18th- 22nd June.

The triennial International Midwives Congress is Organized by the International Confederation of Midwives which shall in 2019 celebrate the 100th since its first meeting was recorded in Belgium in 1919, the year after the first world war ended.
Beginning In 1919, when a group of European midwives, centred in Antwerp, Belgium, established the first beginnings of what was to become the International Confederation of Midwives. Taking advantage of the existing national association of midwives in many countries, going international increased communication among them and a series of regular meetings was launched that have today culminated with the triennial Congress.
