Somalilandsun – EU Heads of Mission to Somalia offer their sympathy and deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who have lost their lives in the attack on AMISOM’s base in Leego (Lower Shabelle region) by Al Shabaab militants. The EU Heads of Mission pay tribute to the slain Burundian troops, other contingents and security forces who have sacrificed their lives in the fight against extremism in Somalia. Our thoughts also go to the people of Burundi, AMISOM colleagues and all those who have suffered as a consequence of violence in Somalia.
The EU will continue to support the promotion of peace and stability in Somalia, and will remain engaged with the African Union Mission in Somalia. Every person has the right to hope for a better future, without fear of violence and extremism. The EU stands firm to support the Somali people to realise this ambition, and will remain engaged with the African Union Mission in Somalia.
