BAIDOA (Somalilandsun)—A Prominent elder has lost his life in a hail of bullets allegedly fired by two masked gunmen in Somalia’s southern strategic city of Baidoa, the capital of Bay region, some 256 Km northwest of the capital Mogadishu.
Eyewitnesses interviewed by Somalilandsun said Yusuf Ali Sheikh; the late elder was shot dead on Tuesday night by two masked young men armed with pistols as he was approaching his house in Baidoa city. The assailants immediately managed to escape safely after carrying out the assassination.
In the aftermath of the shooting, truckloads of security forces reached the crime scene and launched an operation to hunt down the perpetrators, the senior police official said. No suspect was arrested so far over the
murder case.
A police official who says that the late Yusuf Ali Sheikh died from gunshot wounds also informed that security forces are yet to establish the motive nor identity of the unknown assailants but investigations are proceeding speedily and relevant clues may lead to an arrest soon.
Officials in Baidoa have immediately pointed the finger of the blame on Al Shabaab of killing Yusuf Ali Sheikh, a prominent elder in the southern Somali region of Bay region. However, no group has taken or claimed
responsibility for the murder yet.
