MOGADISHU (Somalilandsun) The Somalia national drought relief committee is in receipt of a donation totaling $360,000.
The contribution was handed over to the chairman of the relief committee who is also deputy prime minister Mohamed Omar Arte by speaker of parliament Prof Mohamed Sh Osman Jawari in Mogadishu.
While handing over the cheque Prof Jawari informed that 50% of the sum was contributed jointly by all the presidential candidates while the balance was from legislators
“This contribution by Somalia presidency hopefully comes after a call by legislators for support in a
alleviating drought induced famine in the country” said Prof Jawari
While Thanking both the presidential hopefuls and legislators from both Houses of Parliament, Deputy PM Mohamed Arte promised to ensure that the donation reached those most in need.
Over 5m People in both Somalia and Somalia are suffering from effects of prolonged and recurrent droughts in the Horn of Africa
