HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The youth umbrella NGO-Sonyo has given out start-up capital to Somaliland Youth in a well attended function held at Ambassador Hotel in Hargeisa.
The Minister of Labour and Social Services Hon Mohamoud Ahmed Barre thanked the youth organization for their steadfast moral and material support for the youths of the nation. He said that SONYO initiative would help retain the country’s youth who at the past have immigrated to other countries in search of employment opportunities.
The Minister added that his ministry will not rest until all youth have been trained on how to establish projects that will improve their standards of living.
SONYO granted 70 youths from the six regions of the country that were selected from a group of 120 competitors because of their good proposals.
Present at the ceremony were several government ministers and senior officials of the local NGO. The chairman of SONYO Mr. Mubarik Ismael Tani said that his organization in conjunction with the ministry of labour and social services came up with the idea. He thanked the minister for labour and social services for his selflessness.
The SONYO boss said that the funds are for starting small enterprises and hence create jobs for the youths.
