HARGEISA (Somalilandsun) – The Country’s preparations for voter registration and elections slated for mid 2015 have been termed as satisfactory by the Democratization Steering Committee-DSC.
This was conformed through a letter signed on behalf of the International partners composed DSC by the British envoy to Somalia/Somaliland Ambassador Neil Wigan and addressed to presidency minister Hirsi Ali and copied to various stakeholders in Somaliland including the political parties of UCID, Kulmiye and Kulmiye as well as the National Elections Commission and Ministry of Interior.
The DSC which visited Somaliland between 25th and 26th August is expected to make final recommendations and announce budgetary allocations to the two exercises of voter registration and dual presidential and parliamentary elections following an imminent return visit.
With the government having made monetary provisions for the registration and elections in its 2015 annual national budget the country’s democratization process partners from the International Community fronted by the DSC and regular donors to Somaliland election exercises are expected to announce their share of contribution during the Amb Wigan led team’s visit.
